The year 2025 once again confirmed Oviedo’s position as one of northern Spain’s leading destinations for congresses and professional events. The activity recorded throughout the year reflects the destination’s maturity, with a stable calendar, a well-established infrastructure offering, and close cooperation between institutions, businesses and organising bodies.
The Oviedo Exhibition and Conference Centre is expected to close the year with more than 102,000 attendees, figures that highlight the growing contribution of the meetings industry to the city’s economy.
The medical and scientific field remains one of the main drivers of Oviedo’s congress activity. During 2025, the city hosted some of the most important events on Spain’s national calendar.
These included the National Congress of the Spanish Society of Haematology and Haemotherapy and the National Congress of the Spanish Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, which brought together around 2,600 professionals; the National Congress of the Spanish Society of Nephrology, with approximately 1,800 attendees; the National Congress of the Spanish Society of Nephrology Nursing, with 700 participants; and the International Symposium on Digestive Tumours, attended by more than 650 specialists.
Beyond the figures, these congresses demonstrate Oviedo’s ability to manage large-scale events requiring complex coordination between venues, accommodation providers, restaurants, audiovisual service companies, event set-up teams, logistics operators and specialist suppliers. The experience accumulated across the destination enables it to provide organisers and attendees with an agile, coordinated response.
Looking ahead to 2026
The outlook for 2026 maintains this positive trend. The calendar already includes major confirmed national congresses in fields such as general medicine, pharmacy, endodontics, gastrointestinal endoscopy and infectious diseases, among others. These events will further strengthen Oviedo’s position as a leading destination for professional meetings.
